How to Rotate a PDF on Windows — Free, No Upload
A free way to rotate a PDF on Windows 10 or 11 and save it, and what Microsoft Edge can and cannot do.
How to rotate a PDF on Windows has one simple free answer: open our free Rotate PDF tool in Edge or Chrome, choose the PDF, pick a direction and click Download Rotated PDF. It runs in your browser, so nothing is installed and your PDF stays on your PC. The tool turns every page in the file. Windows has no built-in way to rotate a PDF for good: Microsoft Edge can turn the page on your screen, but that only changes how you see it.
This guide covers only Windows. For other devices, see the main guide: how to rotate a PDF.
Method 1: Rotate PDF in Your Browser (Simplest)
This works in Edge, Chrome and Firefox on Windows. Your PDF is rotated by your browser on your own PC. It is not sent to a server.
- Open rapidtools.online/rotate-pdf. No account is needed.
- Drag your PDF into the box, or click the box and choose the file.
- Choose a direction: 90° Clockwise, 180° Flip or 90° Counter (counter-clockwise).
- Click Download Rotated PDF. The fixed file downloads with “rotated-” added to the start of the name.
How to Rotate Just One Page
Say a 10-page PDF has only page 3 sideways. With RapidTools, you can fix just that page in three steps, all in your browser:
- Use Split PDF three times to make three files: pages 1-2, page 3, and pages 4-10.
- Rotate the page 3 file with Rotate PDF.
- Put the three files back together in order with Merge PDF, using the up and down arrows to set the order.
What About Microsoft Edge?
Microsoft Edge opens PDFs and has a Rotate button, but Microsoft lists it as a reading and viewing feature (Microsoft Learn: PDF reader in Microsoft Edge). Windows users on Microsoft’s community forum report that Edge cannot save the rotation into the file or rotate only some pages (Microsoft Q&A). Use it to read a sideways page, and use the browser tool to fix the file.
Which Method Should You Use?
| Browser tool | Microsoft Edge | |
|---|---|---|
| Install | None | None (built in) |
| Saves the rotation in the file | Yes | No, view only |
| Pages turned | Every page | The view |
| File leaves your PC | No | No |

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I rotate a PDF on Windows for free?
Open rapidtools.online/rotate-pdf in Edge or Chrome, choose the PDF, pick 90° Clockwise, 180° Flip or 90° Counter, and click Download Rotated PDF. The new file has every page turned.
Does Windows have a built-in way to rotate a PDF?
Not to save it. Microsoft Edge has a Rotate button, but it only turns the page on your screen while you read. To change the file, use the browser tool.
Can I rotate just one page?
Not directly. Our Rotate PDF tool turns every page. To fix one page, split it into its own file with Split PDF, rotate that file, then put the parts back in order with Merge PDF.
Does rotating change my original PDF?
No. The browser tool downloads a new file with rotated- at the start of the name and leaves your original as it was.
Is my PDF uploaded when I use the browser tool?
No. Your PDF is rotated by your browser on your own PC and is never sent to a server.
