What this tool does

The PDF watermarker adds a text or image watermark to every page of a PDF — CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, your name, or a logo. Set the opacity, position, size, and rotation. The watermark is baked into the page content (flat watermark), not added as a removable layer. Processing runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly — your file is never uploaded to any server. No account required.

How It Works

Add a watermark to any PDF in 3 steps

Watermarks are embedded directly into the PDF content layer using pdf-lib — the same library used by your existing tools. Nothing is uploaded. No server processes your file.

  1. Upload your PDF: Drag and drop or click to browse. No size limits.
  2. Configure your watermark: Choose text or image, set opacity, orientation, and placement.
  3. Download: Click Apply Watermark. Every page gets stamped and the file downloads instantly.
🔒 Privacy note: Watermarking is most useful for confidential documents — NDAs, draft contracts, unreleased reports. Uploading those to a cloud-based tool exposes them to a third-party server. RapidTools processes everything locally. Your document never travels anywhere.

When to use each watermark type

🔒 CONFIDENTIAL

NDAs, legal filings, internal reports, board documents. Red diagonal is the standard appearance.

✎ DRAFT

Documents shared for review that should not be treated as final. Prevents misuse of preliminary versions.

📋 SAMPLE

Proposals, templates, or portfolios shared with prospects. Shows the content without giving away a clean copy.

📷 Logo / Image

Brand documents, client deliverables, invoices. A semi-transparent logo on every page reinforces ownership.

▤ Tiled

High-security documents where a single stamp could be cropped out. A repeating pattern covers every area of the page.

■ Centred horizontal

Cleaner appearance for client-facing documents where a diagonal stamp would feel too aggressive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add a watermark to a PDF without Adobe?
Yes. RapidTools adds text or image watermarks to any PDF directly in your browser — no Adobe subscription required. Upload your PDF, configure your watermark, and download. Your file never leaves your device.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser using JavaScript and the pdf-lib library. Your PDF never leaves your device — not to our servers or any third party. This makes it safe for confidential documents, NDAs, legal filings, and anything you would not want on a third-party server.
Can I use my own logo as a watermark?
Yes. Click the Image Watermark tab, upload your logo (PNG with transparency works best), set the size and opacity, and apply. Your logo is embedded on every page of the output PDF at your chosen size and transparency.
Can the watermark be removed after applying?
Not from the RapidTools output. The watermark is embedded into the PDF content layer — it is not an annotation that can be toggled off. Always keep your original unwatermarked file. This permanence is what makes watermarking useful for document control.
What is the best opacity for a CONFIDENTIAL watermark?
Medium (35–45%) is the most common setting for professional use — visible and clear without making the underlying content difficult to read. Heavy (60%+) is appropriate for documents where the watermark should be dominant. Light (20–30%) suits brand watermarks where the focus should stay on the content.
What is the difference between single and tiled placement?
Single places one watermark stamp per page at your chosen position. Tiled repeats the watermark across the entire page in a grid pattern — useful for high-security documents where a single stamp could be cropped or covered. Tiled is most commonly used with text watermarks rather than logos.
Does watermarking work on scanned PDFs?
Yes. The watermark is drawn on top of the page content regardless of whether the page is text-based or image-based (scanned). Scanned PDFs receive the watermark exactly the same as digitally-created PDFs.
