How to convert PDF to JPG on Mac has two free answers. The simplest is our free PDF to JPG tool: open it in Safari or Chrome, choose your PDF and click Convert to Images, and each page you choose downloads as its own JPG. It runs in your browser, so nothing is installed and your PDF stays on your Mac. The built-in option is Preview, which can export a PDF as a JPEG, but it saves only one image, so it suits a one-page PDF best.

This guide covers only the Mac. For other devices, see the main guide: how to convert PDF to JPG.

Method 1: PDF to JPG in Your Browser (Simplest)

This works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge on any Mac. Your PDF is turned into images by your browser on your own Mac. It is not sent to a server.

  1. Open rapidtools.online/pdf-to-jpg. No account is needed.
  2. Drag your PDF into the box, or click the box and choose the file in Finder. The first 3 pages show as a preview.⚠️  Always use a copy of your document, never the original. Keep your original file safe.
  3. Under Output Format, choose JPG for smaller files or PNG for better quality.
  4. Under Image Quality, choose Low, Medium (the default) or High.
  5. Under Page Range, choose All Pages, Specific Range (for example 1-5) or Single Page.
  6. Click Convert to Images. Each page downloads as its own file, named like report_page_1.jpg.
Many pages at once? Each page is a separate download, not a ZIP file. If your browser asks whether to allow several downloads, choose Allow.

What the tool does

  • Each page is drawn at twice its normal size, so text stays clear in the image.
  • JPG files are smaller. PNG files keep sharper edges but are bigger.
  • A specific range is one block of pages, such as 3-7. To get pages that are not next to each other, run it again with another range.

Method 2: Preview (Built In)

Preview comes with every Mac and can save a PDF as a JPEG.

  1. Open the PDF in Preview.
  2. Choose File > Export.
  3. Click the Format menu and choose JPEG.
  4. Move the Quality slider if you want a smaller or sharper image.
  5. Type a name, choose where to save it, then click Save.

The limit: a JPEG holds one image, so Preview saves one page. Mac users on Apple’s community forum report that exporting a multi-page PDF gives only the first page. For more pages, use the browser tool, which saves every page you choose.
